Snow day
So it finally snowed… of course on the day that I had to wake up at 6:45 to drive Honor in the snow to the physical therapist. Honor is not very fun to be around when he doesn’t get to sleep in – let’s not think about what he will be like when he’s a teenager.
The physical therapist was nice. She had lots of toys and was very used to dealing with two year olds. (Many times she commented, “He is SO two.”) The bad news is that Honor is going to have to wear a soft brace under his clothes that has straps and elastic and velcro. It’s better than a hard brace, though. I’m not looking forward to making him wear it, but it will be much better than the alternative – surgery.
Eden was so sad that it didn’t snow enough to make a “snow bird.” But the sky is white and it looks promising that we may get more snow. If not, we’re just going to have to break down and take the kids up in the mountains to go sledding. Because every kid needs the chance to make a “snow bird.”

Hey Allison,
I just wanted to tell you that I think that it’s great that you’re working with a physical therapist to help Honor with his leg. Matt’s brother should have done that when he was little, and now that he’s grown his mom is disappointed that she didn’t take care of it. I’m sure that Honor will appreciate your attentive care in the future…despite the fight he’ll likely put up when you strap that brace on him for the first time!

Hi Allison –
You are right, a brace is better than surgury. My oldest son had childhood asthma so it was not fun to explain to him why he had to be careful not to run to much so that he would not cough. I used the “Jesus made you extra special. He gave you this so that other people could learn about it and be thankful that they dont have it – speech. It worked for us and he was about Honor’s age when he started to question it. So good luck and great job taking care of it for him. What we dont go through for/with our kids huh? Take care –

When I looked outside this morning and saw the snow, I thought of you. Maybe we’ll be lucky and get a whole bunch by Sunday…
Glad Honor’s appointment well.
