• Moving Tangle to Main Street is proving to be a very good decision. We are SO busy down here! The amount of yarn pouring through the door is amazing and the amount of yarn pouring out of the door is equally amazing! Have I ever mentioned how much I love yarn?

• There has been a significant amount of family drama happening over the past weeks and I’m very frustrated with the fact that this blog has become so public that I can’t write about any of it. That’s actually why I’ve been so silent lately. I’m afraid of my blog… or rather, afraid of the backlash I’ll receive when I write what I’m ACTUALLY thinking, feeling and experiencing (voting for too!) :) I miss my most precious outlet! And therapy is SO much more expensive than blogging.

• Due to our family drama, we spent last week moving my SIL out of her house and our niece is living with us temporarily. I swear, with all three kids in my house right now, they are intent on my extreme torture. But they are enjoying each other a lot. Jim and I often marvel at how much sheer joy our children derive from such small things. I want to be like them SO badly. Plus it makes me feel like we’re doing something right because they are so dern happy.

• Because of our trip to Vegas and the drama that ensued afterwards, Jim and I had to restart our workout program last week. Today was the start of week two and I am proud to say that I’m already lifting more weight. The pain is getting to be something like a constant companion, but that’s just par for the course.

• Somedays I want to sell everything I own and move up to a little cabin in the mountains where I can knit constantly and live off of food I forage for. Just sayin.

how to save a life?

October 21st, 2008 — 4:53pm

Step one you say we need to talk
She walks you say sit down it’s just a talk
She smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As she goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let her know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past her defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you’ve told her all along
And pray to God she hears you
And pray to God she hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As she begins to raise her voice
You lower yours and grant her one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you’ve followed
She will do one of two things
She will admit to everything
Or she’ll say she’s just not the same
And you’ll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

stealing away a few minutes to write

October 14th, 2008 — 4:39pm

I’ve been so busy. Although we took (some of) Friday to recover from Vegas, it just didn’t seem like enough time to rest before being thrown back into it all. Vegas was fantastic, by the way. We loved being treated like royalty at the MGM, loved staying up late, late every night and sleeping in every morning. We loved spending some fun, alone time together too.

Now that we’re back, we’re back to life full swing. There’s my usual cooking and cleaning that I’m perpetually behind on. And of course Tangle. It’s doing so fantastic, I’ve barely had a chance to eat my lunch while I’m working. This week we’re busy finishing up some of the last minute decorations for our Grand Opening on Saturday which I’m really excited about.

Jim has been working his ass off in our little office at home. I think he enjoys being there rather than at his big office on Main Street and I know that Honor loves being home with him rather than spending every day with me at the yarn store. He’s also had the opportunity to play a few times with a local band that’s a pretty big deal around here. I haven’t gotten to see him yet, but hopefully next time.

Eden has been reading like crazy. I’m amazed at her progress. She even reads better than some of the 2nd graders in her combined class. (Not that we’re comparing, but I guess we actually are!) She spends a lot of her free time writing poems and trying to play school with her brother.

Honor got a surprise from my Uncle yesterday, a pet, miniature lobster. He was beside himself with excitement and he and Jim were setting up a fish bowl for his new pet when I left for work today. Other than that, Honor is taking well to being 5 and has been really enjoyable for the most part.

Now I must return to my ultra fabulous, crazy life. Someday soon, I hope I can return to my blogging ways.

the finer points of fashion

October 4th, 2008 — 5:25pm

“Mom, why do you always wear your hood in front of your neck?”

“It’s not a hood, it’s called a cowl. It’s fashionable.”

“Oh, it’s fashionable? Oh.”

Im so excited to be at work today! Its the day of our oktoberfest celebration here on main street and the local marching bands are stomping by playing things like jesus christ superstar. The streets are lined with excited children grasping the hands of parents shivering in the germany-esque weather. This is precisely why i love main street so much. Its a month in and i think its finally sinking in that i own a store on main street!

Tomorrow jim and i go to vegas and i will leave this place behind for a week. So today i will enjoy my store and revel in my accomplishments, feeling maybe a little too full of myself just for today. Its a good day!

5 year old

September 28th, 2008 — 1:22pm

Birthday boy

Today Honor turns 5 years old. My baby! I can’t believe that he is five… As much as I’ve longed for this day – in my mind 5 was the magical age in which he would be easier – I’m now sad having reached it. He is easier, in fact he has been quite a joy lately. Almost every day he comes up to me with a tender look on his face and tells me, “Mom, you’re so cute.” (Can’t wait to see him when he’s a teenager trying to woo girls.)

Honor’s number one request for his birthday present was a live lobster. He’s been pleading his case over the last few months as we visited the lobster case at the grocery store. “Please mom, I want a pet wobster! Pleeeaaaseee?!” I never could quite reason with him as to why we couldn’t keep a lobster as a pet, but hopefully he will be happy with the slightly used Gameboy advance that we bought him instead.

Birthday boy

I think the next year for Honor might find him in preschool. He asked me yesterday if he would be going to school now that he is 5. Poor kiddo! He’s so lonely when Eden is in school! He also asked me if he could use the microwave now that he is 5. But, alas, no microwave usage for Mr. Honor as the last time he used it, he cooked a breadstick for 45 minutes before we discovered it.

Well, it’s opening presents time. Honor has been “dying” with all this waiting!

• I’m knitting this. It’s going to be beautiful. I can’t wait to finish it.

• Today Jim and I started a 12 week, hardcore workout program. Counting the 20 pounds that I’ve already lost, you probably won’t recognize me when we’re done with it! I’m excited about the prospect of being buff. And slightly sad about the loss of all my cute clothes. But I’ll just have to buy more right?

• Yesterday we booked our flights to Las Vegas for our anniversary. We got an amazing deal on a 4 night stay at the MGM Grand. It will be good to take an actual vacation that doesn’t involve dogs, campers, children or moving other people. It’ll be our first. Listen people, don’t wait 9 years before you go on an actual vacation with your husband!
If we win money in vegas, I’m going to march myself right over to anthropologie and buy myself this purse. Then I will be purchasing expensive shoes. It’s good to have a goal right?

• The move to Main Street is proving to be great for Tangle. The downside to all this fantastic business? I haven’t got any of my day-to-day work done, and once in a great while (or all at once like today) we get the pleasure of dealing with meanies. Such is the life of a retail business…
