The trip to the park in which nobody will look at the camera

February 22nd, 2005 — 10:53am

Yesterday it was nice enough to go to the park. Guess what the first thing Honor did when we got there? He licked it! Gross!! And so typical.

So there’s not much more to say, Honor licked the park, Eden wouldn’t look at the camera. Knock your self out.

And another thing.
I’ve crocheted together three scarves so far and I’m a little disappointed in the finished product. I knew they were going to be eclectic, but this is even a little too eclectic for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love ALL of your squares. I’ve enjoyed SO much seeing everybody’s handiwork, it has been so fun for me to open the mail each day and look through all the amazing squares. My friend Brooke suggested next time we go with a theme like black and white or a similar texture so there is a little more uniformity.

SOOOO, here’s my question for you, my fellow scarf swapees: If you think you’ll wear the scarf, I’ll be HAPPY to crochet them together for you. If you’d rather turn the squares into, say a pillow, or something, I’ll just save myself the time and send them to you as is. What do you think?

Incompetence

February 21st, 2005 — 10:56am

Friday night Honor was having these horrible coughing fits where he couldn’t stop. I gave him some over the counter medicine which didn’t help. Foreseeing that we’d be up all night with a coughing, miserable baby, I called the doctor for some stronger medicine.

The nurse called me back and told me to go get a different over the counter medicine. I clarified with her that it was NOT the same as what I’d been giving him. I get to the pharmacy and, lo and behold, the EXACT same ingredients.

I was livid. If I’d not been proactive and just gave him what I was told to give him, he’d have gotten a double dose of the medicine. I called her back to complain. She argued with me for 5 minutes that it wasn’t the same thing. Finally I said to her, “what am I supposed to do? He’s just coughing and coughing?” She said, “You should probably bring him in.” I asked if the doctor would just call something in and she said that he wouldn’t prescribe something for an infant unless he saw him. (Pshaw! Infant?? He’s 17 months old! The Incompetence!!)

So, 8pm Friday night, I dragged Honor into the After Hours clinic, only to be told that they don’t EVER give little kids like him prescription cough meds. WHAT IN THE WORLD!!!??? What a waste of a trip. I would NEVER have brought him in if the stupid nurse had not led me to believe that he could get some HELP out of the whole trip.

I simple phone conversation with the doctor could have saved me all the trouble. I think next time I’m going to insist that I talk directly with the doctor.

Princess Peanut

February 18th, 2005 — 1:20pm

My mom brought over Eden’s birthday present yesterday. My step-dad was sick with the flu and my mom didn’t want to risk getting anyone else sick at the party just in case she got it too.

So hear Eden is in all her princess glory.

Princess Eden

The necklace she’s holding is a princess necklace that makes twinkling sounds and talks, even though we expressly wrote on all birthday invitations, “Please no electronic toys.” It’s already driving me crazy.

She’s also been playing with her Cabbage patch a lot. She told me today, “Mommy you need to make my baby a princess dress with your mitting.” (mitting = knitting) Perfectly reasonable request, of course her baby needs a princess dress to match hers.

My mom also got Honor a bat. When I told Jim this, he said, “Does your mom hate us?” We’re on day two of bat ownership and all the windows are intact, keep your fingers crossed.

Have a good weekend, mine will involve a trip to Old Navy so Eden can pick out a swimming suit.

I ate Spam.

February 17th, 2005 — 11:27am

And I HATE Spam. It tastes like dog food. Last night at youth group we played a game (I’m in charge of games) involving Spam. I split the room into two teams and each team sent up a delegate. We played Hangman. When a team got a hangman, their delegate had to draw from a bucket and eat whatever food was on the piece of paper that they pulled out. The food options were Tofu (which I love but most teenagers don’t), Spam, Beets, and Green Olives.

One of the words I chose was “Cher” but I mistakenly spelled it “Sher.” I thought it looked funny, but it didn’t register. Because I spelled it wrong, the kids decided that I should have to eat something. Of course I would draw the name of the food I absolutely loathe. As I chewed away, I was kicking myself for cutting the Spam in such big chunks. Yuck!

Anybody have any ideas of other weird foods I can make the kids eat? I’d love to have ideas on games too, sometimes it gets hard coming up with all these games.

Chocolate Sheets

February 16th, 2005 — 9:03am

So remember those chocolates that I got for Valentines day? Honor really enjoyed them. So did my sheets. While I was momentarily out of the room, he climbed up on the bed and ate/smeared all of them. I only had one piece. Enough said.

What is it about chocolate and flowers?

February 15th, 2005 — 2:50pm

Yesterday was the 8 year anniversary of my first date with Jim. Awww, how sweet, huh? Too bad I was super mad at him. He knew it too, I could tell my the smug expression he had on his face when he walked in the door carrying a huge bouquet of white daisies and my favorite chocolate. (Lindor truffles OH. MY. GOD. SO. GOOD) What is it about chocolate and flowers that just makes us instantly forgive them? I’ll never figure it out, but it’s their secret weapon.

A couple of other things.
I got the prints from Apple in the mail yesterday, they’re SO nice! I’m very impressed. The only thing I don’t like is that they are glossy. I prefer to have my prints matte.

Also, Eden got up in the middle of the night last night and went potty all by herself!!!! In the dark!!!! By herself!!!! Usually she freaks out about being in the dark and has to come all the way around the bed to my side (she can’t ask Jim for some reason) to ask if she can go potty. It’s so nice to have a potty trained child.

Finally, I haven’t been able to get an email out to Gina about the scarf swap. Gina are you out there? Are your squares coming?? Let me know?

The 3 year old

February 14th, 2005 — 9:47am

I want to apologize in advance for the poor picture quality. If Eden is smiling, she’s not looking at the camera. And if she’s looking at the camera she’s certainly not smiling.

The birthday went off great. Last minute I decided to change our theme to hearts instead of flowers. Since her birthday is two days before valentines day, you can imagine that all the party decorations I found would be covered in hearts. It turned out great though…

Opening her My Little Pony Merry Go Round (the pony count is now up to 8 and two baby ones)

The daddy to go with the mommy that drives the VW Bug.

She loves cards, it’s like a mini book to her.

Here’s the cake. I’m not too thrilled with my decorating this time around.

The quality of this picture is awful, but it’s just too cute not to share.

Here’s Honor with his buddy Drew chowing down. See how cute the cups and plates were?

It went really well, this kid now has more toys than are at toys r us. I can’t believe she’s three…

crazy day

February 11th, 2005 — 10:43am

I’ve got TONS to do today. I just stuck some chicken curry in the crock pot for the family in our church that I’m delivering a meal to tonight. I’ve got to go to the store and get plates, cups, napkins and candy for Eden’s party. OH, and stuff to make a veggie tray and some other snacks. (I feel so unorganized!)

I’ve also got to clean the kitchen, dining room, master bedroom and my desk. I have to finish weaving ends into my poncho (I’ll post pics later) and be ready to leave the house by 4 so I can drop off the food, drop off the kids, pick up Jim and head to the theater.

I’m tired just thinking of it. And now I’m going to start running around like a mad woman trying to get this all done.

Tofu and ponchos

February 9th, 2005 — 10:15am

Last night I made curried tofu with green beans. I wasn’t too thrilled with the combined taste of green beans, tomatoes, tofu and curry. But I do love me some tofu.

tofu

It was looking so yummy sitting on the plate that I had to take a picture.

But even better than tofu is that I’m almost done with my Frida poncho.

Frida poncho almost finished

You can see that the second panel is almost finished. Each panel will be 30 inches long, so I’ve only got a couple inches to go. Hopefully I will have a chance to finish it tonight. I’m hoping to have it finished in time for Friday night. We’re going to a benefit and silent aution at a dinner theater.

I found a pretty cool knitting blog today, I’m probably the only one in the world who hasn’t seen this site…
fluffa!
check it out.

toothpaste

February 8th, 2005 — 3:50pm

I just got out of the shower (yes I know it’s 4pm, but I’ve been cleaning all day). I thought that the kids were both in my bedroom watching Dumbo, but Honor had ever so quietly snuck into the bathroom. I opened up the shower curtain to find him up on a stool, sucking with all his might on the open tube of toothpaste.

At least his breath is minty fresh…
