our trip to NYC

I’ve uploaded all the photos from our trip to NYC. Click the photo below to see the whole set. (The leis are an inside joke to our friends A & R.)

New York was wonderful, but I feel like it’s such a lonely city. During the week especially, it seemed like people were always alone. The other thing that I was really interested to see was New York Fashion. For women it was: tall boots, knee length wool peacoat, large leather bag, slouchy hat, a scarf folded in half and looped through, and an ipod. Almost everyone was dressed in black or grey. The men were also dressed in dark colors, with a lot of them wearing dress shoes, slim fitting trousers or jeans, a wool coat with a scarf, messenger bag and an ipod.

I loved the middle of the city, but my most favorite parts were lower manhattan, like soho, the meatpacking district and chelsea. On Saturday we went to Chelsea market and I freaked out. It was by far my most favorite place. There we picked up some bread, smoked salmon, roasted nuts and wine for our picnic in Central Park the next day. I was so jealous of the variety of produce, fresh fish, artisan breads… it was amazing.

We also got to spend a good amount of time at Purl and Purl Patchwork. I was surprised at how itty bitty the stores were, but they were amazing. I got a few good ideas at Tangle, but being there also confirmed how well we are doing. It made me feel really proud of Tangle.

I’m happy to be home, but I came away with a love of the city. At some point in my life, I would like to live a year or two there.

A couple glasses of draught guiness after an hour at the fabric store… Its such an indulgent day! Next is pastries and coffee at a little bistro after more shopping.
