yaaaaawn

July 28th, 2005 — 8:35am

So it’s July 28th. I’m ready to be done with summer. Winter clothes are just so much better. In the summer, there’s only so much you can peel off, but winter, if you get hot, there are layers and layers to remove. AHH, fall, I need you…

Jim gave me his stupid cold and I’m kinda tired and run down today, so I don’t have much to say. So just go look at these really cool knits by minette that I found via not martha.

I especially like and want to make the multi pixie mittens and multi pixie scarf.

I think I’m going to go back to bed.

Mosquito Mountain

July 12th, 2005 — 2:58pm

Because we were too lazy to get moving Friday and go camping, we decided to go up to the Grand Mesa Sunday for an evening picnic. (An interesting fact, the Grand Mesa is the largest flat-topped mountain in the world.) I CANNOT BELIEVE how many mosquitos were up there. It was unreal. The second we stepped out of the car, they swarmed us. All I have to say is thank God for deet. We managed to escape with very few bites.

The kids had a great time stomping on pine cones and throwing rocks. That and fighting with each other, I have a feeling it’s just beginning…

I thought that the kids looked cute dressed in matching gray sweatshirts, but Jim thought Eden looked like a boy. When I yelled at him for saying that, Eden said.

“It’s no problem. It was a joke.”

She’s so stinking cute. And Honor, well… he’s such a mess. Lucky for him he’s cute too.

We roasted hot dogs over the fire and by the time the fire died down, every mosquito on the mountain figured out that there was fresh meat just standing there. So we packed up and headed home.

I think next time we’ll opt for desert camping.

Mr. Mom’s unofficial week off –>

June 29th, 2005 — 9:25am

Since the little minions were driving mommy out of her mind, i opted to do a swap for a week, so she’s down at the office keeping the kids in line… and i’m at home masquerading as the spoon wielding harbinger of sore bottoms.

Well… actually my week has gone more like this…

But don’t tell mommy, she thinks we’re hard at working cleaning … something.

It’s kind of my unofficial vacation. Being self-employed one can never actually take vacations. We’re not like the cubical farm inhabitants of corporate America. Things like paid vacation, sick time and benefits are not in our vocabulary. They are mere shimmers of a dream, faint wisps of something far off that we read about in books, but ..

oh wait.. a dispute has arisen over the ownership of the sheep toy.. i must grab my spoon and investigate …

All is well, we were able to settle the dispute with peaceful negotiations.

SO.. where was i? Oh, the joys of self employment. i think i can sum it up best in the words of the old man. “Why should I work 8 hours a day for someone else, when I can work 16 for myself!”. Words of wisdom i shall cherish and someday pass on to my son when he decides to throw his sanity and financial stability to the wind and start his own entrepreneurial endeavors.

I should quit before this turns into a book, but rest assured as you all toil away in your grey fabric cells, munching your power bar and wasting your employers time reading my wife’s website… I SHALL RETURN!!

Now, where did i put my spoon?

June 29th, 2005 — 8:53am

I’d love for each of you to post the link to your blogs. Many of you don’t always post the link when you comment and I like to visit all of your sites. I’m going to build a page with all your links for easier browsing.

So send me your link!

(note: to cut down on spam, I have the comments set up so I have to approve comments that include links, so if it doesn’t show up right away, that’s why.)

boring

June 27th, 2005 — 10:01am

I’m working at the office all this week, Jim’s staying home with the kiddos. I doubt that I’ll have much exciting news to share, but I’ll try to get Jim to do a guest post. Afterall, he is being me this week.

Sorry about the menu too, Does anyone want to post their menu for this week? That would be really cool.

It turns out….

June 24th, 2005 — 9:41am

… that if you try and grill a pizza on a pizza stone, the stone will break. Boo.

But on a good note, the pizza grilled up great!

We’re trying to think of something really cool and fun and super cheap to do tonight, any ideas?

A pain in the…

June 21st, 2005 — 9:31am

I had intended to post pictures from our weekend camping trip, but I woke up this morning at 4:30am with a migraine. Luckily my medication worked this time and my head is feeling better, but I’m pretty sick to my stomach. I didn’t get a chance to grab my camera as I headed out the door, we were already 10 minutes late to Eden’s dance class. So I’m at the office now and I don’t really have much to say other than….

MIGRAINES SUCK!

That’s all. There will be pics of camping tomorrow.

My first sock

June 13th, 2005 — 10:25am

I’m about to give up on ever taking a good picture ever again. Let’s all take a moment of silence for the loss of my Nikon D-70.

*sigh*

I don’t think I ever posted about my ipod(!) though. The ipod fairy felt so bad that I had to give up the camera that he dropped a silver mini in my lap! I love it so much.

So here’s my sock, in poor photo quality.

It was so, so rainy here this weekend that we weren’t able to camp or go to the circus (we even had free tickets) or walk down to the art and jazz festival or do much of anything. We did take our obligatory Friday trip to Target, though, where I continued to drool over the sushi plates and cool oval serving bowls that match my dishes perfectly. Which, because life is always like this, I’m sure, will be gone by the time I have money to purchase them.

AND strangest of all, it was cold here. It’s never cold here in June. It’s never cold here in May!! This has been the absolute strangest weather ever! The low was 45º. I had to dig out all of our winter bedding and clothing. I’m not complaining though, because Saturday night, Jim and I were able to sit out under our gazebo and drink hot chocolate by the fire while it rained. It was almost as nice as camping, especially because we got to sleep in our comfy bed!

Thanks to the weather, I was able to finish my sock and start on it’s mate. We also watched “The Forgotten”, “King Aurthur” and “Alfie”. I give them all a rating of 3.75 stars. Worth watching, but don’t expect too much, well “The Forgotten” was pretty good, I’ll give it a rating of 4 stars.

I also decided that I DO like my ring. I got a slightly better picture of it.

Some times I annoy myself with how picky I am!

Book quiz

June 13th, 2005 — 9:40am

Princess Jazz tagged me for this book quiz. I’ll try to answer the questions, but since in my spare time I can either knit or read, you can guess what I choose.

1. Total number of books I’ve owned.
I’m too lazy to go count, but I’ll tell you that my book collection in NO WAY compares to my sisters. Who lives in a teeny, tiny apartment and everywhere you look, there are books and books and books.
2. The last book I bought.
“Chainfire” by Terry Goodkind (I haven’t even read it because I don’t want to be left in suspense until the next book comes out.)
3. The Last Book I read.
my Bible and uuhhh, Weekend Knitting
4. 5 books that mean something to me.
*My Bible – the only book I’ll ever “need”
*”Stitch n Bitch” by Debbie Stoller – this is how I learned to knit, it’s very dear to my heart.
*The whole Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, I never thought I’d like fantasy books, but I really like this series.
*A breast feeing book that I can’t find at the moment, but it was called something like, “So that’s what they’re for?” It was very influential in my breast feeding efforts.
*”The Visitation” by Frank Peretti. The book in and of itself is just ok, but there are a few parts about corporate church that I always think about, even years after reading the book.

5. Tag 5 people and request they fill this out on their journals.
let me know if you want to be tagged.

I’ll be back in a few to post pics of my first sock! And yes, yes, the menu will be back this week too.
