So it finally snowed… of course on the day that I had to wake up at 6:45 to drive Honor in the snow to the physical therapist. Honor is not very fun to be around when he doesn’t get to sleep in – let’s not think about what he will be like when he’s a teenager.
The physical therapist was nice. She had lots of toys and was very used to dealing with two year olds. (Many times she commented, “He is SO two.”) The bad news is that Honor is going to have to wear a soft brace under his clothes that has straps and elastic and velcro. It’s better than a hard brace, though. I’m not looking forward to making him wear it, but it will be much better than the alternative – surgery.
Eden was so sad that it didn’t snow enough to make a “snow bird.” But the sky is white and it looks promising that we may get more snow. If not, we’re just going to have to break down and take the kids up in the mountains to go sledding. Because every kid needs the chance to make a “snow bird.”

Honor has decided that he likes to sleep in the nude. I went in last night to find he had taken his jammies off (luckily his diaper was still on.) So I put them back on – it was sort of like wrestling a dead fish. I’m just not quite sure WHAT I am going to do with this boy.

Friday I took Honor to the Pediatric Orthopedist for his foot that turns in. He’s going to have to wear a shoe insert and have physical therapy, but she was hopeful that we could get it much closer to normal in the next couple of years.
While we were there, Honor took every opportunity and then some to test me. While we were waiting (because you know, doctors ALWAYS have to make you wait) he discovered the drinking fountain around the corner from the waiting room. I don’t quite understand why kids love water so much? I held him up so he could get one drink (that mostly ended up on his coat) and the rest of the time I endured questions of, “I want rink? Please?”
When we finally got into the exam room (to wait some more) Honor was delighted to see that there was a little sink with in his reach. I spent the whole time trying to keep him away from that sink.
My final test came when we were waiting again to schedule his appointment with the physical therapist…right by the CHRISTMAS TREE. How was Honor supposed to resist a Christmas tree? He was holding his piece of candy that I had earlier bribed him with, waiting until we got into the car to open it – that in itself is amazing. And he kept going over to the tree saying, “I just look at it.” Yeah, he looked with his hands. So finally I told him, “don’t touch that tree or I’m taking your candy away.” And what did he do? Walked over to the tree and barely touched an ornament with the tip of his finger.

“Mommy, you’re a sweet boy.”

“It’s funny, he can’t play with his toys for more than two minutes but he can do something naughty for hours.”
“Yeah, playing with his legos – eh, but playing in the toilet! Yay!
Coloring on the coloring book – eh, but drawing on the cabinets with a sharpie! Yay!
Reading books – eh, but playing with mommies makeup! Yay!
Playing with his cars – eh, but dumping toys down the heater vent! Yay!”

Honor just spent 30 minutes crying because the banana that he had half eaten wasn’t big anymore. Two year olds can be so unreasonable. After that he decided that he wanted a “sammich” with “matos” and knowing that he wouldn’t eat the bread, I just gave him the meat. When he finally stopped crying long enough to taste his meat, he accidentally tore it. And that sent him into a new wave of hysterics.
It took me five minutes to convince him that having his meat in a nice little roll was cool. Then he discovered that it was really fun to unroll. Guess how many times I rolled up that piece of turkey?
Today is going to be a great day, I can feel it.

Lately Honor has been delegated to every little brothers role – a dog. Now he spends his days crawling around, panting and licking EVERYTHING in sight, including my face on occasion. You know, it’s nothing unusual from what he usually does.
He’s a pretty good dog, he heels, and listens better than he does when he’s NOT being a dog. He also doesn’t poop on the floor. Eden, of course, loves it because he actually listens to her when she bosses him around – every big sisters dream. I only have one concern about Honor’s newfound canine side: the toilet. Dogs love to drink out of the toilet and it’s not like he needs any encouragement. Maybe if I got a collar and leash for him, I could keep him from drinking out of the toilet? Now that’s an idea.

So the plumber came out today to fix the toilet. We were hoping that the reason it was overflowing was all the extra rain we got last week. But it didn’t get better, it got worse. So 110 dollars later, we find out why the toilet was clogged. It seems that SOMEBODY flushed a washcloth down the toilet. I wonder WHO that could be?

Honor just obeyed me! I told him to go get some socks out of his drawer and he did it. The very first time I told him. And I didn’t have to walk him into his room and make him do it either. He just obeyed. This is a very momentous occasion.
And while we’re speaking of poop these days, I just over heard Eden say in the bathroom while she was undoing her overalls. “Just a second poop, I’ll let you go in the toilet.”
