My little Ballerina

June 14th, 2005 — 9:20am

Eden has been enjoying her ballet class so much. Today she called it her pink ballet class because she wore her pink leotard. Last Thursday it was her black ballet class because she was wearing her black leotard. Strangely this morning, she didn’t want to peel herself out of bed when I told here that we were going to go to ballet class. She said, “I just need to take a little rest.” And rolled back over.

We made it though, barely in time. I can’t believe how fast I got Eden to move when I told her we were going to be late for her dance class. Honor of course was as slow as possible. Which leads us to the hardest part of dance class: containing Honor for the VERY long 40 minutes. I’m starting to think that we made a mistake in naming him “Honor,” because it’s very similar to the word “Ornery.”

Here’s Eden with her friend Tasia on the first day of dance.

And the girls with their teacher.

Thanks to my friend Jill who took much better photos than I did.

at least it wasn’t her butt

June 9th, 2005 — 6:01am

On the way to bed, Eden let out a big, huge burp,

“My mouth tooted.”

If I had any self esteem, it’s gone now

This is what Eden said to me yesterday,

“Mom, you have a big, big BUTT.”

Wittle Buddy

May 5th, 2005 — 7:04pm

Eden is so freaking hilarious. It’s amazing how much she loves her little brother. My mom always said how much my little sister and I loved each other when we were little. I never believed her because we were enemies when we got older (we get along now). But I can see now how that could be.

[pause to go get Honor more milk in his bottle, the little addict! He says, “some muk, some muk”]

Eden is such a mirror of phrases we use. I guess we call Honor, “little buddy” frequently, because she always calls him “wittle buddy.” They’re playing together really well now. Eden always asks him, “Honor want to go outside and play? Would that be fun?” He shakes his head and says “side, side, side.”

But what I hear all day long is, “Mommieeee, mommieeee, mommieeee.” or “mine, mine, mine, mine.” Over and over again. Someone tell me why I wanted him to talk?

I blame my mother

April 8th, 2005 — 9:53am

Jim just doesn’t understand that it’s not my fault that I like to return things. It was bred into me. My mom is the supreme, expert returner. She’ll return anything. She even returned the paint that she painted her house with FIVE YEARS AGO. And trust me, she’ll get her money back. She may have to throw a fit in front of the store manager, but she’ll get her money back. As a kid, I remember groaning when I heard the words, “Let me talk to your manager.”

I’ve been known to return a thing or two myself. Jim thinks I like it, but I just want to make sure that I’m happy with my purchase. Sometimes you just need to get an item home before you know if you want it or not. When we celebrate my birthday week (don’t I have him trained so well?) one of my presents is always something that I can return. He searches for the ugliest item of clothing in the store and then wraps it up with the receipt. I can’t convince him that I don’t return for the thrill.

So, basically, Eden has no hope. The curse of the returner is just too hard to break. Today she was looking through an avon catalogue (she doesn’t understand why I have so many “books”) when she came upon a CareBears bed set. She told me that she wants to take her bed back to the store and get the bear bed instead. But really, what should Jim expect? There really is NO hope.

Owies

February 28th, 2005 — 12:40pm

Eden and I both hurt ourselves this past week. Somehow, I’m not exactly sure how, she burned her finger with the curling iron. She burned it really bad. I think what happened is that Honor pushed her into it. I always keep the curling iron in the sink while I’m doing my hair, so they can’t pull it down onto themselves. Well, Eden was standing up to the counter on the stool and Honor tried to climb up on the stool with her. That’s when she burned herself, but I’m not exactly sure how she got to the curling iron. Poor Baby. It’s burned in a place that I can’t put a bandaid on it, so I’ve got it all bandaged up with gauze and tape. She looks like a real invalid.

Saturday I was cutting a bagel when I sliced my finger really bad. It hurt like hell and made me really upset with myself for being so stupid. I’m still working on everyones scarves, but it’s really slowing me down to have a bandaged index finger. That’s the most upsetting part, not being able to knit efficiently!

Also, it seems that the spam filter that I installed on my blog blocked some of you from being able to comment. I deactivated it so please email me if you are still not able to comment.

The trip to the park in which nobody will look at the camera

February 22nd, 2005 — 10:53am

Yesterday it was nice enough to go to the park. Guess what the first thing Honor did when we got there? He licked it! Gross!! And so typical.

So there’s not much more to say, Honor licked the park, Eden wouldn’t look at the camera. Knock your self out.

And another thing.
I’ve crocheted together three scarves so far and I’m a little disappointed in the finished product. I knew they were going to be eclectic, but this is even a little too eclectic for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love ALL of your squares. I’ve enjoyed SO much seeing everybody’s handiwork, it has been so fun for me to open the mail each day and look through all the amazing squares. My friend Brooke suggested next time we go with a theme like black and white or a similar texture so there is a little more uniformity.

SOOOO, here’s my question for you, my fellow scarf swapees: If you think you’ll wear the scarf, I’ll be HAPPY to crochet them together for you. If you’d rather turn the squares into, say a pillow, or something, I’ll just save myself the time and send them to you as is. What do you think?

Princess Peanut

February 18th, 2005 — 1:20pm

My mom brought over Eden’s birthday present yesterday. My step-dad was sick with the flu and my mom didn’t want to risk getting anyone else sick at the party just in case she got it too.

So hear Eden is in all her princess glory.

Princess Eden

The necklace she’s holding is a princess necklace that makes twinkling sounds and talks, even though we expressly wrote on all birthday invitations, “Please no electronic toys.” It’s already driving me crazy.

She’s also been playing with her Cabbage patch a lot. She told me today, “Mommy you need to make my baby a princess dress with your mitting.” (mitting = knitting) Perfectly reasonable request, of course her baby needs a princess dress to match hers.

My mom also got Honor a bat. When I told Jim this, he said, “Does your mom hate us?” We’re on day two of bat ownership and all the windows are intact, keep your fingers crossed.

Have a good weekend, mine will involve a trip to Old Navy so Eden can pick out a swimming suit.

What is it about chocolate and flowers?

February 15th, 2005 — 2:50pm

Yesterday was the 8 year anniversary of my first date with Jim. Awww, how sweet, huh? Too bad I was super mad at him. He knew it too, I could tell my the smug expression he had on his face when he walked in the door carrying a huge bouquet of white daisies and my favorite chocolate. (Lindor truffles OH. MY. GOD. SO. GOOD) What is it about chocolate and flowers that just makes us instantly forgive them? I’ll never figure it out, but it’s their secret weapon.

A couple of other things.
I got the prints from Apple in the mail yesterday, they’re SO nice! I’m very impressed. The only thing I don’t like is that they are glossy. I prefer to have my prints matte.

Also, Eden got up in the middle of the night last night and went potty all by herself!!!! In the dark!!!! By herself!!!! Usually she freaks out about being in the dark and has to come all the way around the bed to my side (she can’t ask Jim for some reason) to ask if she can go potty. It’s so nice to have a potty trained child.

Finally, I haven’t been able to get an email out to Gina about the scarf swap. Gina are you out there? Are your squares coming?? Let me know?

The 3 year old

February 14th, 2005 — 9:47am

I want to apologize in advance for the poor picture quality. If Eden is smiling, she’s not looking at the camera. And if she’s looking at the camera she’s certainly not smiling.

The birthday went off great. Last minute I decided to change our theme to hearts instead of flowers. Since her birthday is two days before valentines day, you can imagine that all the party decorations I found would be covered in hearts. It turned out great though…

Opening her My Little Pony Merry Go Round (the pony count is now up to 8 and two baby ones)

The daddy to go with the mommy that drives the VW Bug.

She loves cards, it’s like a mini book to her.

Here’s the cake. I’m not too thrilled with my decorating this time around.

The quality of this picture is awful, but it’s just too cute not to share.

Here’s Honor with his buddy Drew chowing down. See how cute the cups and plates were?

It went really well, this kid now has more toys than are at toys r us. I can’t believe she’s three…
