what’s going on

• Since the arrival of Blue Sky Alpacas at Tangle, I’ve been furiously knitting the eyelet cardigan. I’m sooo close to finishing it up, just some seaming and button bands to go! (Of course I chose chocolate brown for the color.)

• We started recycling last month. Our city’s recycling program (just $1.25/month) provides these ginormous reusable bags for sorting out the different items. After filling up one of those bags in less than a month with plastics, I started re-thinking our bottled water addiction. (Smart Water, how I’ll miss you!) Reading this article (via No Impact Man) set me over the top. But after taking one sip of our tap water, I knew I couldn’t go back. So, I tracked down the affordable delivery service that Jim uses at the office, set up a cooler rental and am now happy to announce that my plastic consumption is going to go WAY down, I’ll be saving money and I won’t be contributing to the ill effects of transporting water because it’s filtered here locally. Now I just think I need this fancy, metal water bottle to drink out of. hmmm….

• A few weeks ago, Jim competed in the local battle of the bands competition. His band won that night and also took the #1 ranking out of the 16 bands competing. Thursday night he goes onto round two, where, we’re thinking he (they) will win. I haven’t liked that all the practices have taken him away from us, but I do really love to watch him play. It reminds me of the first time my 15 year old self watched him play and vowed that I was going to marry him. (AWWWWW)

• I’ve been trying really hard to force myself to go to the gym three times a week. So far, pretty good – Fridays are the hardest times to go. But! I just bought some much needed shoes that have been helping to motivate me, literally. My very first check from my google ads arrived a few weeks ago (only took me 2 years to earn!) and I treated myself to some very cool Nike ipod shoes. I always swore that I would NEVER wear Nikes, but when they work with my ipod, keeping track of my pace, calories burned, distance and time, I couldn’t resist. Plus, these babies will ONLY be worn to workout. What can I say? I’m a sucker for anything apple, it came with the husband.

I have never heard of NIKE ipod shoes…so cool.

Vitamin Cottage carries your bottle. Cade tried to talk me into a $19.99 bottle for himself…not sure I can pay that and watch its demise. =) Not for an 8-year-old anyways.

Congrats on the gym. I’ve been back for a few months and it’s made a HUGE difference. I feel like garbage when I miss a day or two. Keep it up girlygirl.

thanks for the link on the SIGG bottles…my boss has one and i had been meaning to ask her about it. that will be the end of drinking water from the work water cooler out of plastic or (shudder) styro cups. i ended up going to REI and getting one today. at first i felt bad about the trip, but then i decided that my driving 4 miles to the store & back was less consumptive than ordering it online and the miles it would travel to get here, plus packaging. ever since you posted the no impact man blog, i’ve been following it and seriously re-thinking my consumption habits. i’m actually going to start parking my car at the park-n-ride halfway between work & home and biking the remaining 4 miles, cutting my driving in half on the days i do it. it’s amazing how much you realise you really don’t know about the effects of your consumption habits, especially as they relate to plastic. you should give yourself a little hug today…not only are you working on your own habits, you got me thinking seriously about mine. good job. =]

I use the little iPod sensor, but bought a pocket for my shoe, since I wear Mizunos. Gets me through those long runs like nothing else! Don’t get water delivery, just buy a Brita (or whatever brand) filter pitcher and use it with your tap water.

Every tennis shoe I have ever owned has been Nike! They just fit me right. Furthermore, I love my new IPOD shuffle. I loved it so much, I bought Taylor one too and now she loves hers. It is the first Apple apparatus I have ever owned. Anyway, just wanted to share!

I got two klean kanteens for mother’s day. I really like the stainless steal. We have a water filter at home (pur, I think) that filters our kitchen water right at the sink. It is a seperate faucet that is next to our bigger faucet that we use for cleaning things. I really like it. Even if our water didn’t have some serious problems, I would still prefer the water I get from this filter than what comes from our tap.

My parents had well water when I was growing up. It was a nice, deep well, too. Sigh. Those were the days.

  9. that other kari!

yay for recycling and for sigg bottles! and lady, it’s amazing that you’ve got two kari’s reading your blog! Based on the unusualness of our name, I would say that means you’re Big Time!
